The HPE Smart Array P542D Controller is a PCIe 3.0 mezzanine controller offering 12 Gb/s Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) RAID. It provides enterprise-class storage performance, and increased scalability and data protection to HPE Synergy Compute Modules and to ProLiant XL270d Servers in the HPE Apollo 6500 chassis. It features eight external physical links and eight internal physical links to deliver increased Synergy Compute Module uptime.

- The HPE Smart Array P542D Controller supports internal zoned, direct-attached SAS or SATA drives or to drives in the HPE Synergy D3940 Storage Module.
- Enhances performance with 2GB Flash-Backed Write Cache (FBWC) and provides both read and write acceleration for workloads such as databases or web pages when used with the optional HPE SmartCache.
- When running in HBA mode, the Smart Array P542D Controller can support Software Defined Storage applications such as Microsoft® Storage Spaces and VMware® Virtual SAN™ when configured with the HPE Synergy D3940 Storage Modules.
- HPE Smart Array P542D Controller offers RAID 0/1/10/5/50/6/60/10 ADM for all eight internal drives on ProLiant XL270d Server platforms.

Data Protection with Encryption Capability
- The HPE Smart Array P542D Controller offers optional HPE Secure Encryption capability that protects data at rest on any bulk storage attached to the controller.
